US Open 2017: Naomi Osaka v Naoko Kubota

Naomi Osaka has been on a bit of a roll since the US Open – the 19-year-old is the youngest player in the top 100. Her departure from New York was part of a six-way share of the lead late on Tuesday before fighting back to tie it at 6-6 (9-7). That tie was broken in the tie-break, and the US Open final was set in six.

Here in Tokyo, the crowd held their applause in appreciation of her deep rallies and against-the-odds wins. They probably could have used the straight sets that Osaka delivered against Naoko Kubota.

The two match-ups could be fairytales if they happen.
