Tiger Woods tees off with his fans: ‘I’m back on the range after a nine month layoff’

Tiger Woods posted the first video he has taken in nine months Tuesday, footage of the golf star practicing his approach shot in full swing off the tee.

His wife, Elin Nordegren, was back in the house.

“Putting on a warm summer day at the Country Club with my dad at the range,” Woods wrote on Twitter. “I’m back on the range after a nine month layoff to get back into better shape for the Masters.”

Given that, “competitive” could mean any of two things: He could be on a course working out ahead of the U.S. Open, which starts June 14, 2016, or he’s on the course taking practice swings at Augusta National as he bids to make another Masters appearance on the Feb. 26, 2017, first tee, his 59th.

From the sound of it, it’s the latter. Woods is looking fit again, notably because he’s taking care of his body.

Famed trainer Billy Payne posted on Instagram Sept. 21 a photo of Woods in his underwear in a golf bag with the caption, “The Hammer is back.”

“Tiger still has to pass all of our training and P.I.S. tests, and it will be a process that will take time,” Payne said. “But I’m optimistic about his future.”

So there you have it. A solid start to Woods’ comeback. Here’s hoping he can finish strong in 2016.
